asked:

The words “colon infection” can cover a range different colon problems.

When doctors use the term however, they’re usually talking about a condition caused by the Clostridium difficile bacteria. Clostridium is also commonly known as C. difficile or just C diff.

Those most likely to get a colon infection from Clostridium difficile are seniors who are in a hospital or living in a nursing home or long term care facility. Those who are taking antibiotics to cure some other illness are among those most likely to get a colon infection from C. diff.

Antibiotics kill many kinds of bacteria – not just a certain type that are causing an illness. So, sometimes they kill bacteria that live in our intestines and help us digest our food. Without enough of this beneficial bacteria, C. diff takes over and grows rapidly. Once C. diff gets established, it causes an infection by producing a toxic substance that attacks the lining of the cells and intestines. The resulting inflammation causes abdominal pain and discomfort.

If your colon infection is fairly mild, it will probably go away when you stop taking the antibiotic. In cases wher the colon infection is more severe, however, a different type of antibiotic may be necessary to kill C. diff.

There are several kinds of antibiotics that seem to produce more colon infections from Clostridium difficile than others. These include fluoroquinolones, cephalosporins, penicillin and clindamycin.

It’s not hard to find C. diff bacteria in the natural environment. It’s abundant in water and dirt. It can also be found on plants. This bacteria floats in the air and can also be found in the metabolic wastes of humans and animals. Therefore it prospers in area where there’s poor sanitation.

infection

asked:

A yeast infection is simply a fungal infection. Its clinical name is candidiasis. A yeast infection occurs when fungus in the body is placed in an environment which allows it to grow and spread. The fungus then becomes overgrown in the body leading to a yeast infection. There are many causes for a yeast infection and in most cases is easily treated and cured. In some cases yeast infections can become resistant to treatment and become life threatening.

The most common causes for yeast infections are the use of antibiotics and steroids. These medications kill the bacteria that live with the yeast that is usually in the body. Once the bacterium is killed it allows the yeast to over grow and form an unsafe level of yeast in the body. This is known as a yeast infection. Other causes for a yeast infection include a weak immune system, birth control pills, pregnancy, diabetes, and obesity.

Yeast thrives in moist, warm and dark places. The mouth, vagina, skin folds, diaper area and arm pits are the most common locations for yeast infections because they are the perfect breeding grounds for yeast. Those who are overweight can find yeast infections on the skin due to skin folds. Yeast is common under the breast and lower abdomen because of the excess weight. Yeast infections are most common in women and infants, but men can also have yeast infections. Penile yeast infections are not common but can occur if a sexual partner has a yeast infection.

infection

asked:

Are you struggling in managing your bills? Then it’s time for you to merge all your loans before it goes way out of hand.

There are many ways to merge all your student loans. What will happen is that all the loan will be merged into one big loan.

This is called student loans consolidation, making your debt repayment easier to handle and to cover. This has very little difference when refinancing a mortgage. Most federal monetary assistance such as FFELP (Stafford, PLUS and SLS), FISL, Perkins, Health Professional Student Loans, NSL, HEAL, Guaranteed Student and Direct loans are of high potential to be consolidated. Other creditors give options for merging private loans. If you wish to consolidate your federal parent or student loans, transactions and inquiries can be made at the Department of Education or the Federal Direct Consolidation Loans Information Center.

The United States Federal Direct Student Loan Program (FDLP) consists of consolidation loans that lets students merge the Stafford Loans, PLUS Loans, and Federal Perkins Loans into one particular debt. The benefits of this program are flexible monthly repayment terms and a secure interest rate .

nsl

asked:

Throughout history man has faced the spread of infection, pondering its causes and how to treat it or prevent it. Infections have been known to affect major segments of the population, as did the plague in the Middle Ages. Although important advances have been made in understanding and treating infection, the threat of infection looms as large as it ever has. Newer enemies in the battle of infection emerge such as HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Once-conquered enemies become resistant to treatment, as it the case of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Healthcare personnel typically encounter numerous patients on a daily basis, many of whom may be harboring these or other agents of infection. Measures to prevent the spread of infection must be taken in the course of treating all patients.

Below we explain the infection process and describe infection control measures needed to protect healthcare patients, staff, visitors, and those who do business with healthcare facilities.

What Is Infection?

Our environment is full of microorganisms (microscopic organisms) referred to as microbes. Microbes include bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses. The majority of microbes are nonpathogenic, meaning they do not cause disease under normal conditions. Microbes that are capable of causing disease (ie., pathogenic) are called pathogens. If a pathogen invades the body and the conditions are favorable for it to multiply and cause injurious effects or disease, the resulting condition is called an infection. The pathogen responsible for causing the infection is referred to as the infectious or causative agent. Infection can be local (restricted to a small area of the, body) or systemic, in which the entire body is affected.

Communicable Infections

Some pathogenic microbes cause infections that can be spread from person to person. These infections are called communicable infections and the diseases that result are called communicable diseases. A division of the U.S. Public Health Service called the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is charged with the investigation and control of various diseases, especially those that are communicable and have epidemic potential. The CDC recommends safety precautions to protect healthcare workers and others from infection.

Nosocomial Infections

Approximately 5 % of patients in the United States are exposed to and contract some sort of infection after admission to a hospital or other healthcare facility. These hospital or healthcare facility-acquired infections are called nosocomial infections. Nosocomial infections can result from contact with infected personnel, other patients, and visitors, or contaminated equipment. The most common nosocomial infection in the United States is urinary tract infection. The Hospital Infection Control Practice Advisory Committee (HICPAC), established in 1991, advises the CDC on updating guidelines regarding prevention of nosocomial infection.

Source Of Infection

The source is the origin of infectious microorganisms, also called the reservoir. Sources of infectious microbes include infected humans or anima1s and contaminated articles and equipment. In a healthcare setting, human sources of infectious microbes can be patients, personnel, or visitors, and can include those with active disease, those whose disease is in the incubation period, and those who are chronic carriers of a dis- ease. Another potential source of infectious microbes is a person’s own normal flora (microorganisms that normally live on the skin and other areas of the human body).

infection

asked:

Returned Check – Returned Check Reasons:

Why was my check returned?

Why was the deposit returned?

What does NSF stand for? What does RTM mean?

What do returned check messages mean?

Overview:

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has published the updated Check 21 Return Codes. Find out the reason codes, reasons for return, and reasons for rejection, and what the stamps actually mean.

Description:

Not Sufficient Funds – Not Sufficient Funds, NSF, Insufficient Funds, ISF are the same message. NSF and ISF mean that at the time the check was presented to the account holder’s bank, there were not enough funds in the account to pay the check or draft.

When a check is returned for NSF or ISF, the item can be redeposited unless the front of the item is stamped DO NOT REDEPOSIT. Usually if an item is stamped DO NOT REDEPOSIT, the account number is also crossed out or punched out with a hole punch.

Uncollected Funds Hold – Uncollected Funds – UCF – UFH – UF, items are returned because funds available in the account are not yet available. This can happen when a deposit into the account holder’s bank has not yet cleared. For example, the account holder deposits a paycheck for $1,000 into his bank on Monday, and the check is set to be clear on Wednesday, making $1,000 pending, but not available. The account holder then writes a check on Monday night to a merchant that deposits the item on Tuesday. The merchant’s bank presents the check on Tuesday and the bank returns the item, Uncollected Funds, because the money is there on paper, but not available. If a check has been stamped Uncollected Funds Hold, Uncollected Funds, or a similar message, the item is eligible for redeposit. Just deposit the item again, and the hold may have been lifted.

Stop Payment - Stop Pay – Check Stop – Stop Payment Check – Stop Payment Item – If your check or draft is returned with a Stop Payment this means the account holder, the person who originally wrote the check or authorized the draft has revoked their authorization. You cannot redeposit an item marked with a Stop Payment. Stop Payment is a feature available to any account holder who contacts their bank BEFORE the check or draft they authorized is presented for payment. The account holder tells the bank the check number, the amount of the check and payee and the bank in turn looks for this check, or range of checks and returns the item(s) unpaid marked Stop Payment.

Closed Account – Account Closed – When the banks stamps Account Closed or puts the Closed Account stamp on a check or draft that was deposited, this means the account holder’s bank account that was associated with that check is closed. No closed account or account closed items can be redeposited. You must get a new check from the account holder when the item was returned Account Closed.

Unable to Locate Account – UTL – Unable to Locate – When a check or draft is returned with the Unable to Locate or UTL stamp, this means the bank cannot find any account with that account number in its records. This is most likely a check by phone or check draft where the wrong information was entered or provided. Unable to locate checks or drafts may have details as to what exactly was wrong, such as a circled account number, or invalid routing number message. Some UTL or unable to locate account checks have handwritten notes on the stamp to help the merchant locate the proper details. Users of CheckWriter software can use RoutingTool to look up bank routing numbers and bank phone numbers. Other reasons could be the addition or absence of leading zeros in an account number, such as a customer with the account number 123456, but on the check the account number shows 000123456. Unable to locate checks cannot be redeposited. A new item must be created or a new check would be required from the account holder.

nsl

Many colleges use ACS student loans because of this company’s long standing reputation for handling loan servicing efficiently through the use of technology. Incidentally, they are the Department of Education’s primary outsourcing contractor. With an ACS student loan, students can easily manage their accounts online. They can make payments, check on their account status, revise personal details, and get email notification of payments that have been processed. The ACS online interface provides a convenient method of managing all of your loans in one place.

nsl

asked:

There are several types of fungal infections which can infect the scalp. One of these is the ringworm commonly referred to as Tinea capitis. Ringworm infection of the scalp is extremely common world wide. It is predominantly an infection of toddlers and young children. The infection is quite obvious because it presents with constant itching, redden scalp and patches of hair loss. Despite the alarming symptoms, ringworm of the scalp is not life threatening. The most difficult problem is the treatment. When it is not adequately treated, it can be easily transmitted to friends and family.

Symptoms: Most children who have a ring worm infection will have some symptoms, but on rare occasions they will not have any. Constant and intense itching around the scalp is the most obvious sign. Other features of the infection include loss of hair in circular patches. Often the skin is red and tender. The hair loss is quite significant. Even the hair that remains can be easily pulled out without any tension. In almost all cases, ringworm infections of the scalp tend to increase in size if it is not treated. A small patch will generally infect other areas of the scalp. Besides infection of other areas of the scalp, ringworms can easily be transmitted to others: person to person transmission is quite common. Other modes of transmission include sharing personal care items, bed linen pillows and combs. Sometimes pets acquire the infection and can transmit it to humans.

Risk factors

Ringworm is most common in children who attend day care and kindergarten. Outbreaks of ringworm infections are quite common in North America and difficult to control. Even inanimate objects like pencils, door handles, chairs and tables can transmit this fungus. The risk of ringworm infection is also increased if:

infection

asked:

It is important to remember that kidney pain and back pain can have similar symptoms that have entirely different causes. You can have back pain symptoms that are caused by a kidney infection, while another person could have the exact same symptoms caused by a back problem.

When lower back pain is caused by a kidney problem.

Your kidneys are located to the left and right side of your spine directly above your hips. Pain from a kidney infection will usually occur near this same general area, although it can radiate outwards thus complicating diagnosis. Many people describe the symptoms as a general tenderness or ache and not “pain.” A strong, stabbing pain may be related to back problems and not the kidneys. The pain or tenderness can be due to a kidney infection or it could be related to some type of injury to the kidneys themselves. For instance, an injury caused by a fall could compress one kidney impacting and damaging it.

infection

asked:

Yeast infections are so popular now with 75% of women suffering from at least one infection during their life that they are not treated as serious as they should be. For some women they get an infection, and to them a trip to the chemist/drug store to get an OTC yeast cream is the answer. What they don’t realize is yeast infections are caused by an aggressive fungus that can potentially destroy their health, and an infection can be a reason that their health isn’t as good as it should be.

When you’re suffering from a yeast infection the symptoms are caused by the fungus feeding on your skin cells. This means that all the itching and burning in and around your vagina is because you have an aggressive fungus feeding on your body. This fungus has started feeding on you for a reason, and many women are not concerned, or don’t even think about why they are infected, they’re just interested in curing the symptoms.

infection
